Jun 06, 2016 · This is still my favorite version of the Return of the Jedi soundtrack, despite the more modern re-mastered and “Hi-Res” that have been released since. I really wish this CD could see a re-release, but in the meantime it is worth tracking down a used copy.

May 26, 2019 · This CD is the original theatrical release soundtrack from 1983. It does not contain as many tracks as the remastered dual CD set that accompanied the re-release of the original Star Wars trilogy. It does contain, however, the original songs that were sung by Sy Snoodles in Jabba the Hutt’s Palace, “Lapti Nek”, and the original ending song

Sep 21, 2004 · Review. Return of the Jedi is generally considered the weakest of the original trilogy movies. The new themes introduced in this film (Jabba’s, the Emperor’s, Ewok’s and Luke & Leia’s) are great but they are more simplistic, much like the movie. The Emperor’s theme while effectively creepy doesn’t overwhelm the Vader’s much more complex motif as it should.

Instead of the Ewok celebration from the 1983 original version, the Special Edition ends with a Victory Celebration (depicting the festivities on Tatooine, Bespin, and Coruscant, the former throne world of the Empire

Sep 20, 2003 · This was especially important regarding Return of the Jedi, whose original single-album release in ’83 was so disappointing compared to Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back. The Star Wars trilogy soundtrack box set was fantastic, restoring so much of the missing music from the album. This one, however, even goes beyond that.

May 08, 2018 · Return of the Jedi was the shortest Star Wars soundtrack album released during the original trilogy (ironically, as this score contained the most music), and the fading interest in records and emergence of cassettes and CDs relegated the original release to one double-sided record – half of the space allotted to the previous two films’ music

This new outlook allows us to greater appreciate what has often been viewed as the weakest of the original trilogy: “Return of the Jedi”. Often derided for its overly ‘cute’ factor, ROTJ is in a sense as strong as the original and only slightly less impressive than the nearly perfect “The Empire Strikes Back”.

Return of the Jedi sees Williams adding a handful of brand-new themes to his well-established Star Wars jukebox, including themes for Jabba the Hutt, the Ewoks, Luke and Leia. All of these tunes heighten the intensity of the scenes they accompany.

A few general observations about the overarching demeanor of the music in Return of the Jedi and individual moments of interest merit some attention as well. First, an intangible detraction from Williams’ work here is the lack of the weighty drama that was heard in The Empire Strikes Back .
